Established in 1985, the Gloucester Pumas have their origins in the Gloucestershire Constabulary Police Basketball Section. Formed to compete in police tournaments they soon signed on to take part in the fledgling Gloucestershire Basketball Association. Over the years they continued to compete in regional and national police competitions, with players even having trials for the GB Police team. Alongside this they were a stalwart of the local league, now bolstered by non-police officers. At times the club expanded to field two senior teams in the GBBA league known variously as the Three 9’s and then the Cougars.

Dwindling police numbers meant that the club cut official links with the Constabulary at the start of the 2015/16 season, embarking on a new independent era. Today they play their home at the Gloucestershire College, still competing in the local league and cup competitions as well as the newly established Glozball Summer League.
